TTP Residential 2016

TTP students from Castleford Academy, Yewlands Academy, Corpus Christi Catholic College, Mount St Mary’s Catholic High School and Moor End Academy took part in the University of Leeds Thomas Transition Programme (TTP) Residential 2016 on Thursday 30th June and Friday 1st July 2016.

The residential is the perfect way to find out more about the realities of university life, as well as to unwind after GCSE examinations and is the culmination of a year long programme of sustained activity with the students having worked with the team across the year in school.

The residential was a fantastic opportunity for students to find out more about university life. They discovered what it is like to live in university accommodation, met new people from other TTP schools and gained an insight into the all-round student experience.

Funded by a charitable donation from Dil and Liz Thomas, the programme aims to give bright young people from non-privileged backgrounds the best possible chance of fulfilling their potential.

Based at Devonshire Halls of Residence, students took part in an action packed two days on campus, designed to give an insight into many aspects of student life and were treated to an evening out at Bradford Alhambra Theatre to watch the West End Production of ‘Footloose’

The participants were complimented on their excellent attitudes and high level of motivation by session leaders, those we visited and worked with, and by members of the public.

The residential culminated in the Group Challenge. Students worked tirelessly to produce creative student life journeys taking into consideration everything they had learnt across the residential about university life.

The Student Talent Spotting Team is really proud to have worked with such an amazing group of young people; every student tried new things and all of them should be very proud of their achievements.
